This photomicrograph reveals some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the fungal organism, Candida albicans, which lives on numerous parts of the human body, as normal flora. However, when an imbalance occurs, such as when hormonal balances change, C. albicans can multiply, resulting in a mucosal or skin infection called candidiasis.
