Telomeres, Health and Longevity

For over three years I have studied everything I can find about telomeres, the tips of our DNA which are responsible for both health and longevity. Ordinarily telomeres shrink about 1% each year of life. They shrink much faster in people who:
- Smoke
- Are overweight
- Eat poorly and eat few fruits and vegetables
- Are inactive
- Do not take multivitamins
The July 7 JAMA reports on 787 individuals initially free of cancer and followed for 10 years. Telomeres were measured initially in leukocytes. Leukocyte telomeres have been reported to mirror those in other organs. Fascinatingly all subjects were followed. In that 10 year period 92 (11.7%) developed cancer. The incidence of cancer in only one decade was over 4 times greater in those with the shortest telomeres as compared with those with the longest telomeres. Cancer mortality was also greater in those with the shortest telomeres.
Over these past 3 years I have been measuring leukocyte telomeres initially and then observing telomere regeneration when individuals use the RejuvaMatrix Solar Homeopathy® mat 30 to 60 minutes daily. Twenty seven of 34 individuals followed at least one year had significant increases in telomere length. One individual who had slight shrinkage at one year had 4% regeneration by the second year. In those with regeneration, average growth was 5.9%, which is equivalent to 6.9% better than expected. This is the first known demonstration of regeneration of telomeres. Within another 6 months I will have at least the one year results on 50 individuals.
