Neurotransmitters mediate communication between adjacent neurons.

The course reviews physiological interactions between neurotransmitters, the immune system and hormones. Clinical applications regarding questionnaire forms, laboratory tests and nutritional supplements are emphasized.

The Foundation for Alternative and Integrative Medicine (FAIM) is looking into alternative treatments for brain dysfunctions including Parkinson's disease. This training is an upper level introduction to the brain and all of its functions. Numerous clinical pearls and case studies are presented to provide information that could be used effectively by a therapist. There is a complete review of the literature regarding natural supplements that support the immune system, hormones, and neurotransmitters. The degenerating brain is a real consequence for all society today. The brain neurons are constantly threatened by inflammatory responses, immune activation, dysglycemia, methylation failures, deficiencies of critical nutrients, and lack of stimulation. The brain is essential for every aspect of our physiology, our cognitive experiences, the emotions we feel and essentially who we perceive we are.

Assessment forms can help determine deficiencies in neurotransmitters as well as issues in the body which are obstacles to cure. By looking at these physiological symptoms it is possible for a therapist to suggest nutritional supplements to support and return balance to the brain and its function. The four main neurotransmitters in brain function are serotonin, GABA, dopamine and acetylcholine. In addition there are several feedback loops that are inherent in proper brain and body function. These include the adrenal-brain-immune connection, thyroid-immune-brain connection, hormone brain connection and the brain-immune connection.

This course is an incredibly concise presentation of brain and neurotransmitter function that equips the therapist with all the tools needed to help those in need.
