Investigations and Activities

The Foundation for Alternative and Integrative Medicine (FAIM) identifies effective alternative therapies using a four-pronged systematic approach including site visits, conferences, retrospective studies and clinical trials, and networking to integrate new therapies into practice.

stem cellsAutologous Stem Cells

Autologous Adult Stem Cells (A-ASC) protocols have the remarkable potential to revolutionize medicine. These protocols are free of any ethical questions because they use a patients own stem cells and re-infuse them into the body in the area of need. This type of stem cell has been used around the world for the past ten years with impressive efficacy and safety.

cancer cellsCancer

Cancer is "a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems" (from the National Cancer Institute). Research into new treatment options provides alternative and complementary therapies.

Chronic and degenerative diseases, where the organs and tissues of the body progressively deteriorate is creating a huge drain on society. Allopathic medicine addresses acute illness with ease, but surgery and pharmaceuticals do not treat long term chronic disease with great effect. FAIM's mission to find low cost, effective treatments has propelled us to investigate alternative therapies for degenerative disease.

Complementary and alternative medicineComplementary and Alternative Medicine

The terms complementary and alternative medicine refers to any healing practice that doesn't fall within the realm of conventional medicine and interventions used in conjunction with mainstream techniques. It includes naturopathy, chiropractic, herbalism, traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, meditation, yoga, biofeedback, hypnosis, homeopathy, acupuncture and diet-based therapy.

diabetes blood testDiabetes

Diabetes is a chronic disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to properly control blood sugar levels. Type 2, the most common form, presents a different scenario. It begins when the body doesn't respond prOperly to insulin which is released by the pancreas. FAIM has learned about treatments for both types. Stem cell therapies are being investigated for the treatment of Type 1. Type 2 can be addressed through diet and lifestyle changes.

EIS screenEnergy Medicine Devices

Energy medicine covers a broad scope of science. Therapies based on forms of energy that are unconfirmed by scientific investigation are considered "putative." Other therapies which are based on known forms of energy, such as electromagnetism, are know as "veritable." FAIM has studied devices in both categories and is collaborating with Dove Health Alliance and the Energy Medicine Instrument Investigation Committee to develop a catalogue of these various devices.

FAIMFunctional Medicine

Functional Medicine is personalized medicine that deals with primary prevention and underlying causes instead of symptoms for serious chronic disease. It is a science-based field of health care.

Herbal therapies have been used over the centuries with great effectiveness. Herbal therapy is also known as botanical medicine, herbal medicine, herbology, phytotherapy and medical herbalism. Medicinal plants synthesize substances that are useful to maintain health. Often herbs used in cooking yield useful medical compounds. FAIM does site visits and collaborates with the goal of disseminating information to the world regarding herbal therapies.

homeopathic remedyHomeopathy

Homeopathy was first proposed by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. The protocol uses preparations (remedies) which are diluted many times. Dilution often results in none of the original substance remaining. The Homeopath looks at the symptoms presenting, but also observes aspects of the patient's physical and psychological state when recommending remedies.

In an effort to seek out ways to address disease with proper nutrition, FAIM attends relevant conferences and does extensive site visits to clinics which emphasize this healing initiative.

nutritional oilsNutritional Oils

Nutritional oils are a natural source of essential fatty acids that everyone needs for good health.

Linus PaulingOrthomolecular Medicine

The term "orthomolecular" was coined by Linus Pauling, PhD, in 1968. It describes the practice of preventing and treating disease by providing the body with optimal amounts of substances that are natural to the body. The term orthomolecular comes from ortho, meaning "right" and molecular meaning "molecule."

sustainable agricultureSustainable Agriculture and Nutrient Dense Food

In search of protocols to promote a healthy world, FAIM is constantly reminded of the importance of nutritient rich foods which can only come from soils high in minerals. The world is as healthy as the food it can consume.

traditional medicineTraditional Medicine

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines traditional medicine as: The health practices, approaches, knowledge and beliefs incorporating plant, animal and mineral-based medicines, spiritual therapies, manual techniques and exercises, applied singularly or in combination to heal, diagnose and prevent illness or maintain well-being.

Viva Modern Mayr Medicine clinicTreatment Centers

FAIM travels the world looking for treatment centers which incorporate low cost, non-toxic and effective protocols in their treatments. Often these clinics offer unique opportunities for the patient to heal.
